3. Core Function

 In new energy power applications (such as distributed photovoltaic, energy storage system, etc.), the core functions of energy meters are as follows:

  • Bidirectional Metering: Energy meters support bidirectional energy measurement, which means they can simultaneously record two types of energy flows.

- Forward energy: Electricity consumed by users from the grid

- Reverse energy: Surplus electricity generated by photovoltaic systems and fed back into the grid.

The function solves the limitation of traditional unidirectional meters, which cannot distinguish between "consumption" and "generation". It is the foundation for the "self-generation and self-consumption with surplus power fed into the grid" model in new energy systems.

  • Real-Time Monitoring and Communication: Energy meters enable real-time data collection and remote interaction through various communication interfaces (such as Wi-Fi, RS485. This function enhances the convenience of system management and enables timely response to abnormal conditions.
  • Safety Protection: Energy meters are equipped with multiple safety mechanisms, including anti-backflow function, over-voltage/over-current protection, and arc fault detection (AFCI), to ensure the security of both the system and the grid.
